Most common magic shroom in Canada

Most Common Magic Shroom in Canada

What is the most common magic shroom in Canada, you may ask? Magic mushrooms are mushrooms that contain naturally-occurring compounds that possess hallucinogenic and psychoactive properties. These compounds are called psilocybin and psilocin. Psilocybin is the predominant and more stable compound of a magic mushroom. On the other hand, psilocin is the psychoactive compound that stimulates the brain.

These two compounds co-exist together and are chemically near similar. But it is the psilocin that gives off the high feeling. Mushrooms are mainly taken orally. This causes the psilocybin to be converted into psilocin when it reaches the digestive tract.

It is believed that magic shrooms have been a part of some indigenous people’s culture throughout the world. These shrooms’ hallucinogenic effects have been used in ceremonies and rituals that date back as far as 9000 B.C.

However, selling, producing, and even possessing substances containing these two compounds are illegal in Canada. The two compounds are both classified as Schedule III drugs under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
Even if this is the case, movements push the legalization of these magic mushrooms.

Uses of Magic Mushrooms

The use of magic mushrooms dates back to ancient times. These are used by healers and shamans when performing rituals.Magic mushrooms are mainly taken orally, either raw or dried, but are sometimes soaked in liquid and drank like tea. The shrooms can also be pulverized to be snorted or injected. Illegal labs also produce powder and capsules. The dosage can be challenging to predict since the psychoactive compound varies in each mushroom, and each user may have different reactions.

When consumed, the most common magic shroom in Canada can cause short-term physical and mental effects. This includes:

Since there are many species of mushrooms, a big issue arises. There have been various mushroom poisoning reports each year in Canada since some poisonous mushroom appears similar to magic mushrooms.
The following list shows some of the magic shrooms that can be seen growing in Canada.

Most Common Magic Shroom in Canada

Psilocybe Cyanescens

These are also called wavy caps because the cap’s curved or rippled appearance is when fully grown. Wavy caps are commonly located in California, British Columbia, and most Pacific Northwest during the fall season up to early winter. They are often found in scattered and dense clumps and also in wood chips and debris. Wavy caps are also known for their high potency, which is more durable when fresh. They contain high levels of both psilocybin and psilocin with a trace amount of baeocystin. The potency is more potent when fresh.

Psilocybe Cyanofibrillosa

It is also called Rhododendron Psilocybe or Blue-haired Psilocybe. It commonly grows in rhododendron gardens and debris of alder and willow wood chips scattered in Northern California and British Columbia. It is not recommended that this shroom is taken dried as it loses 70% of its potency during dehydration.

Psilocybe Fimetaria

These shrooms can be located in Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, Denmark, United Kingdom, and Scandinavia. They grow well scattered individually or assembled in large rings in horse manure and grassy areas with fertile soil. They usually show up during fall to early winter.

Psilocybe Liniformans

This species often confuses because it has two variants. One is an American variant that is commonly found in Oregon, Washington, and British Columbia. At the same time, the other is a European variant commonly found in the Netherlands and Italy. The season for this species starts from summer through autumn. It grows individually or in tufts in horse manure or fields that are well manured. Both variants are mildly active and have a low to moderate potency. When consumed, there is a known risk of having allergic reactions.

Psilocybe Semilanceata

These shrooms are widely known as Liberty Caps. It is considered that these shrooms are the most widespread psilocybin mushrooms. It is also considered to be the third most potent. It is commonly found in grassy areas, lawns, alder bark mulch, and decaying debris and wood chips. It also has varying growth seasons. It may be late July through September for grassy areas and late September to December in deeply mulched gardens. It can also grow all year in some areas of the Pacific Northwest. Its potency is considered to be low to moderate psychoactive. Be warned that these shrooms look very similar to the Galerina marginata. These are toxic mushrooms that are potentially lethal.

Even if it is still illegal to sell and produce the most common magic shroom in Canada, some studies have shown positive effects that can help people with depression and anxiety. There are many types and species of these magic mushrooms and are scattered all over the world. Further studies about proper dosage and lessening or risks and side effects are necessary so that eventually these magic mushrooms can be legalized for medical purposes.
